Betty on the News: More Women Than Men Booted from Military for Being Gay
If you’re a homosexual female who is serving our country you are at risk for getting dismissed, according to recent data.
New statistics acquired by the Palm Center at the University of California reveals that more females were kicked out of the military in 2008 than males, just for being openly gay.
The research group discovered that services banished an uneven number of women under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which was put in place in 1994.
Palm Center senior research fellow Nathaniel Frank found that in fiscal year 2008 the Air Force discharged 56 women and only 34 men, all of whom were homosexual. The Army also dismissed more women under the policy “at a greater rate than men when compared with the ratio of women to men in each service,” according to CNN.com.
The data showed that of those discharged under the policy 36 percent were females, though women account for only14 percent of troops in the Army. (CNN.com)
