As more evidence has emerged suggesting that suspected Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who killed 12 and wounded 31 at the military base, was an Islamic extremist, Senator Joe Lieberman has announced that he plans to lead a congressional investigation into the attack, which he believes could qualify as the worst terrorist act on U.S. soil since 9/11.
On Sunday, Lieberman, who chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, told Fox News Sunday that there were “strong warning signals” that Hasan was an Islamic extremist and that his panel would investigate whether “the Army missed warning signs that should have led them to essentially discharge him.”
Hasan, a Palestinian-American military psychiatrist, allegedly yelled “Allahu akbar,” Arabic for “God is great,” as he opened fire. He is currently being treated at a military hospital after being wounded by a police officer. (Fox News)
