Betty on the News: Sex Infections Still Growing in the US
Mothers lock up your kids! STDs are running rampant.
Researchers reported Monday that sexually transmitted infections are much too common these days, and that teens are the most vulnerable of all.
Girls aged 15 to 19 had the most chlamydia and gonorrhea infections of any age group at 409,531.
“Chlamydia and gonorrhea are stable at unacceptably high levels and syphilis is resurgent after almost being eliminated,” John Douglas, director of the division of sexually transmitted diseases at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, revealed.
Just in case you aren’t already scared out of your wits, Douglas added that the US has just about the “highest rates of STDs of any developed country in the world.”
Overall, the CDC estimates that 19 million new sexually transmitted outbreaks occur every year, nearly half among 15- to 24-year-olds. (Yahoo! News)
