Watching TV Could Shorten Your Life
A warning to all couch potatoes.
Between primetime, late night, and TV news, it’s easy to spend hours a day watching television and not even realize it. However, according to a new study, every hour that is spent in front of a TV could dramatically shorten your life, due to the increased risk of dying earlier from cardiovascular disease.
“Compared with people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who watched more than four hours a day had a 46 percent higher risk of death from all causes and an 80 percent increased risk for CVD-related death,” the researchers said, noting that many people spend the majority of their days in a chair, “from the chair in the car to the chair in the office to the chair in front of the television.”
The best way to ensure a long and healthy life? Keep moving, said the researchers.
“In addition to doing regular exercise, avoid sitting for prolonged periods and keep in mind to ‘move more, more often’. Too much sitting is bad for health.” (Reuters/Yahoo)
