ASK REAL GUYS
He Needs Space?
Dear ASK REAL GUYS: My ex-boyfriend and I dated for more than three years. We were so in love and were planning to move in together. All of a sudden he told me he didn’t love me anymore, and he needed space and some time. He says he still really cares for me and wants to be friends. However, he also says that he just doesn’t know what he wants right now. I just don’t understand how you stop loving somebody after three years. Does that even happen? The problem is, I love him so much and I know he is the one. We shouldn’t be apart.
What is going on, and is there anything I can do to get him back? I don’t want to lose him forever.
Avery: It sounds like your boyfriend is having cold feet. By trying to reel him in now, you’re only going to push him away. My advice is to give him the space that he wants; just let go and see what happens. It’ll be terribly painful – at least at first – but you asked us if there’s anything you can do to get him back. If that’s what you REALLY want, let him go. If he comes back, the relationship will be more on your terms and you’ll know that he genuinely wants you back. If he comes back and then wants his space again, write back and I’ll tell you what you should do at that point. For now, back off and leave him alone.
