And Your Oscar Hosts Are…Anne Hathaway and James Franco!
The two young actors will host the Academy Awards next year.
The suspense is over. The 83rd annual Academy Awards will be co-hosted next February by Anne Hathaway and James Franco, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday.
In a news release, show coproducers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said that Franco and Hathaway “personify the next generation of Hollywood icons—fresh, exciting and multi-talented…We are completely thrilled.”
Hathaway is now starring in Love and Other Drugs. She’s also appeared in The Princess Diaries, Becoming Jane and The Devil Wears Prada. In 2008, she got an Oscar nomination for Rachel Getting Married, and on that same night she danced with host Hugh Jackman in a humorous stage routine.
Franco is likely to get an Oscar nomination for his role in 127 Hours, and internet posters commented that if he doesn’t win, it might make for an awkward evening. But it seems likely that Franco, who’s appeared in drag on a magazine cover as well as playing parts in everything from General Hospital to the Spiderman trilogy, would be able to handle that.
The broadcast is set for Feb. 27, 2011 and will be televised live to more than 200 countries. (Oscars)
