First of all, let’s give it up for Jimmy Fallon! He did a fantastic job as host of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. Not only were his skits funny and original, but he kept the show quick, entertaining, and most importantly of all, drama-free. It was so refreshing to watch an award show that was so smooth and kept everyone in high spirits. His musical tributes and guitar-playing intros were really adorable and wonderfully executed.
We especially loved the opening gleeful number featuring Tina Fey, Jane Lynch, the big wigs of Glee, our girl Betty White, Joel McHale, and the dreamy Jon Hamm breaking it down! How cool was that? Even Kate Gosselin’s small appearance in the bit was hilarious.
One of our favorite moments of the night was George Clooney’s poignant acceptance speech for the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. On a night filled with entertainment and laughter, Clooney was able to convey a very important message, and insert his own jokes to get his point across. After receiving a standing ovation, Clooney told the audience: “It’s important to remember how much good can get done because we live in such strange times where bad behavior sucks up all of the attention and the press.”
“I have offered to go to the south of Sudan and stage, like, a wardrobe malfunction,” he continued, “but it was pointed out to me that I’m 49, and the consensus was that it would just be upsetting. And kind of sad.” Somehow, we don’t think we’re the only ones who wouldn’t think that was sad at all!
