Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fans: The Movie Is Coming!
But don’t expect the series’ creator, Joss Whedon, or the original cast to be involved.
The show that first made vampires and girls-kicking-butt cool, aka Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is being turned into a major motion picture! Finally!
However, devoted fans of the old series shouldn’t get too excited yet… the series’ creator, Joss Whedon, and the original cast are nowhere to be found in the movie plans.
According to E! Online, Warner Bros. announced the new project on Tuesday, saying they’ve made a deal to “reboot” the classic Buffy story, but with a new creative team and script writer, newcomer Whit Anderson (who’s apparently a young Buffy fanatic).
Joss Whedon, the creator and mastermind behind the success of the show, is clearly upset he’s not involved in the movie. He wrote to E! Online in an email:
“This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own… Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this… I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don’t love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I’m also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was.”
We have to agree with Whedon. After all, it is his mind and his writing that made Buffy into the huge success that it was, and it’s a shame he won’t be involved in this “reboot.” (E! Online)
Tell us, Buffy fans: What do you think about this Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie? Do you think it will be any good without Joss Whedon’s involvement?
