Catch The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier for The First Time in The States
Next month, the designer’s iconic styles are heading to Dallas!
Fashion enthusiasts, prepare to be amazed by an upcoming multimedia exhibit titled “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier.” The collection is slated to make a home at the Dallas Museum of Art from November 13, 2001 to February 12, 2012. We covered the Montreal opening this past summer. Now it’s even closer for you to view!
Soon, you can get an up close look at Madonna’s covet worthy stage outfits (including those famed cone bras she wore on tour in the 90s!), Kylie Minogue’s glam ensembles, Dita Von Teese’s sexy body-hugging dress and more than 100 other getups worn by men and women from the 1970s all the way up to 2011.
The entire exhibit consists of a whopping 500 pieces, including playfully dressed mannequins that sing and chant, film, concert, and performance clips, and fashion photography. This world renowned designer created more than 150 collections over a 35 year span, all while working with countless pop stars, choreographers, and directors.
Exhibition Curator and Catalogue Editor, Thierry-Maxime Loriot said, “When you see the craftsmanship and all the work and how imaginative Gaultier is, I consider him a real artist…what is most fascinating is that it is always innovative, always new, never boring, which is exceptional. He initiates the trends rather than following them, which explains why he is still here after 35 years.”
The famed Gaultier himself has called the exhibition, “my biggest show ever….my life.”
We’re more than a little jealous of the Dallas residents out there, but fans unable to attend the exhibit can delve into a 424-page exhibition catalogue to be released on November 1, 2011. Though the catalogue will be sold at a hefty $125, the more than 500 illustrations (including previously unpublished ones) and celebrity interviews make the price tag worth it.
