Bridal season is almost upon us! You’ve got the groom, the dress, the venue, pretty much everything — now onto the fun stuff …how will you wear your makeup? Your hair? And how do you get that perfect “wedding glow” on your wedding day? Take a cue from a bevy of celebrity beauties: Kate Middleton, Reese Witherspoon, Gwen Stefani, Nikki Reed and Kate Moss to create a stunning bridal beauty look that’s perfect for you.
1. The Princess Bride — Kate Middleton
When Kate Middleton married the (real) prince of her dreams, Prince William, last April, she wore a stunning white gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The dress’s train was almost 9 feet in length. It combined English Cluny lace and French Chantilly lace. The dress itself was made with ivory and white gazar. The long sleeves and high neck gave the dress a truly regal feel.
Kate has always worn her hair long and loose. For her wedding day, Kate opted for a chic half up / half down ‘do instead of a classic chignon. Not only did the hairstyle offset the severity of the gown, it was true to Kate’s personality and style.
HOW TO DO IT: Want to do it yourself? It’s easy! First, set your hair in loose curls with hot curlers, and comb them through with your fingers. Then, on the back of your head, part your hair horizontally from ear to ear. Gather the top part of the parted hair as if you were going to make a pony tail. Then take that hair and wrap it into a small bun that lays flat against your head. Use hair pins that match your hair color and pin them through your bun securing it in place.
Lightly brush the loose locks that are flowing across your shoulders and down your back. Make sure there aren’t any loose or oddly waving strands of hair (if you’ve ever made a ponytail without looking in the mirror, you know what I’m talking about). To set your hair, lightly mist your hair with a hair spray that contains a long hold formula.
Then all you need to do is practice your royal wave.
2. The Natural Bride — Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon channeled Legally Blonde’s pink-obsessed Elle Woods for her second marriage. She walked down the aisle in a pale pink strapless Moinique Lhuillier full skirted tulle wedding gown with Chantilly lace accents on the corset when she married Jim Toth on March 26, 2011. Wearing a beautiful strapless wedding gown’s a no-brainer for an outdoor wedding in sunny California. After all, you want to look beautiful and be comfortable outside.
HOW TO: When you’re wearing a strapless gown, your arms, shoulders and back are exposed. How to get healthy glowing skin like Reese’s before your wedding day? Exfoliate! A few months before the wedding, you’ve probably all ready started a good skin care regimen. If you’re wearing a strapless gown like Reese’s, extend that regimen down to your toes!
Pick up an inexpensive buffing type body sponge and an exfoliating cleanser. Once a week use the exfoliating cleanser and the buffing body sponge together all over your body when you shower or bathe. Pay special attention to your shoulders, back, elbows and feet. By the time your big day happens, your skin will be soft, glowing and blemish-free.
And, of course, we’re certain that Reese took extra special care to make sure that her underarms were looking their best, which means taking care to use a great shave gel, razor and a very good deodorant. All those little things that make you more comfortable when it’s time to toss your bouquet at the end of the wedding!
A gorgeous Gwen Stefani, old Hollywood Nikki Reed’s wedding, and more up next!
