double or nothing

With Thanksgiving on our heels, what better way to bring in the holiday than with a head-to-head kitchen showdown? Well, not exactly in a kitchen, but instead a slightly larger cooking arena– Times Square! Today Frigidaire is hosting the Double or Nothing Challenge featuring Food Network chefs and Next Iron Chef contestants Anne Burrell and Geoffrey Zakarian. Each chef prepared a savory holiday meal using the new Frigidaire Gallery Range with Symmetry Double Oven. The high powered appliance guarantees quicker cooking time with double cooking power. Let the games begin!

I got to chat with both chefs as they were prepping for the culinary cook-off. Geoffrey saw this battle as a “piece of cake” in comparison to the Next Iron Chef competition. Do we sense a rilvary? Not at all! Rather, Anne was excited to be in the Big Apple. “We’re in the crossroads of the world! It feels alive being here.”

They also had great advice to offer holiday cooks at home. Geoffrey suggests eliminating stress by planning ahead. “Make a menu the day before, then look at the menu and take one thing off. Everyone overreaches and tries to please everybody and (then) ends up stressed.”

“Your guests feel it when you’re stressed. And start drinking early!” Anne believes you should have fun with cooking. “Enjoy the day! Don’t do something you haven’t done before. Do things that you’re comfortable doing.” They  also recommend re-doing your leftovers (if you have any). Geoffrey makes soup from his leftover turkey, while Anne makes sandwiches or turkey potpie!

Take a look at their menus for the challenge:

Anne Burrell

The competition will be livestreamed at 12pm on four different skyscrapers in Times Square. Not in the city or don’t want to brave the rain (who does?)  Watch the livestreaming on Facebook andcan also vote for their favorite chef! For every vote cast, Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children, helping United States children and families in need. And in case you missed the live show, catch the rerun on Facebook until December 2nd which is also when voting ends.

You can also enter to win your own Frigidaire Gallery Range Oven–sounds like a great Christmas gift!
