Demi Lovato Dates Then Dumps Trace Cyrus
The Disney star hooked up with Miley Cyrus’ big brother, then ditched him
Aaah, young love. Disney star Demi Lovato‘s whirlwind romance with her pal Miley Cyrus‘ brother, Trace, has ended almost before it began. The Sonny With a Chance star’s romance with the Metro Station front man began a few weeks ago with a little prodding from Miley, but ended when Demi dumped Trace the day she hit the road for her tour.
Demi, 16, and Trace, 20, spent most of the last two weeks together during their brief affair. A friend of the blink-and-you-missed-it couple reveals the details of their summer romance and subsequent split.
“Since Demi’s so young, they were really just getting to know each other better and spending time hanging out. There are many similarities in their lives and mutual affection – they had plenty in common,” the insider says. “They did the Universal City walk together and even saw the new Transformers movie. Demi and Trace also spent plenty of time just talking and watching movies at home together.”
“Last week Trace intended to fly from L.A. to Virginia to get a new tattoo, but his United flight couldn’t take off and had a major delay. He took it as a sign and decided to bail instead of waiting for them to fix the problem. He really just wanted to get back to the city and hang out with Demi,” the pal adds. “Up until Trace had to hop on a plane to go to London late last week, they were hanging out every single day.”
“This week they began touring separately, so Demi broke it off. No one around her wanted her to continue a long-distance relationship. Demi is too young to be deeply involved in a relationship. Plus, her mom and team makes sure that work and school are bigger priorities right now.”
But it didn’t end there. The pair began a Twitter battle that even dragged in Miley and Trace’s mom, Tish.
First Demi asked, “I know there’s such thing as a Mr. Right… But can there be such thing as a Mr. Not Right Now…?”
Then Trace posted the following Tweet: “Another storybook ending.” He followed it up with a picture of his ex-girlfriend, hinting that since he’s done with Demi, he might reconnect with his ex. Then (take a deep Mean Girls-style breath), Demi responded: “I’m sorry, was that supposed to hurt? Hm.. Oh well “
Miley, who had been thrilled that her friend Demi and her brother had hit it off, proved that blood is thicker than water, Tweeting, “‘That’s why they call them crushes. If they were easy, they’d call them something else’ – 16 candles.”
“Miley supported their relationship from the beginning but now she’s taking Trace’s side,” says the insider. “She will always choose family over friends and is going through her own mess making up and breaking up again with Nick Jonas. Trace got his pride and feelings hurt. Demi is definitely not at the top of Miley’s list right now.”
