Does Ryan Gosling Feel Snubbed By His Lack of Oscar Nomination?
Ryan Gosling didn’t get an Oscar nomination for either of his big films this year. Does he feel snubbed?
Ryan Gosling has certainly been having a disappointing year when it comes to awards. First he lost out on winning People’s Sexiest Man Alive to Bradley Cooper; now, he’s been passed over at the Oscars for not one, but two movies: The Ides of March and Drive. But does he feel snubbed by the Academy? In a word: No.
No, really. When asked that question by the Hollywood Reporter, all he had to say about it was that single word: “No.” Honorably stoic? We’re going to go with yes.
On the other hand, he’s also super busy right now, so maybe he just doesn’t have the time to worry about whether or not he’ll end up with a little golden statue to decorate his mantelpiece. Right now, he’s in Bangkok, Thailand getting ready to shoot the film Only God Forgives. He recently spoke with the Hollywood Reporter at the Hua Hin International Film Festival, where he was the guest of honor at the opening night gala (hey, at least someone appreciates him!). Here are some sound bytes for you:
On Bangkok: “[It’s] incredible… .Ever since I came here I’ve been dreaming about making a film in Bangkok. I’m happy to be here.”
On the Muay Thai boxing he’s been required to learn for the film: “It’s sparring basically. They don’t really use weights. Nicholas [Winding Refn, the director] is learning it as well…. It’s very hard. They have people training all around me and they could all beat me up.”
On not winning Sexiest Man Alive: “I voted for Bradley and I’m glad he won.”
On what he’s up to next: “We’re [Ryan and Nicholas Winding Refn] developing an adaptation of Logan’s Run. We have lots of plans.”
Busy is as busy does!
