Dreams Do Come True: I Met Gwen Stefani at Fashion's Night Out & L.A.M.B. Show!

Gwen Stefani has been my idol for many years, and during this season's Fashion Week, I finally got the chance to meet her.

Last night at the L.A.M.B. Spring/Summer 2011 fashion show was no different. Our fashion editor, PJ Gach, knows how much I love Gwen, and was gracious enough to give me her seat. The show was classic Gwen, with ska beats and club remixes blasting from the speakers, like “You Don’t Love Me” by Dawn Penn and “Electric Feel (Justice Remix)” by MGMT.

Faye and Tony and Tom

I had a perfect view of the front row, which included Mel B. (Scary Spice), Omarion, Russell Simmons, No Doubt’s Tom Dumont with his wife and son, No Doubt’s Tony Kanal with his pregnant wife, and of course, Gavin Rossdale with son, Kingston in his lap (and I believe Zuma was in the arms of the nanny behind them). I watched them all nod their heads to the beat as they watched the bright, print-heavy, Caribbean-inspired designs come down the runway. (I stayed later after the show to get pics with Tony and Tom!).

The models rocked braided hair, fedora hats (an everyday accessory for Gwen), and the new line of L.A.M.B. handbags and shoes. My favorite pieces were a blue, black and white asymmetrical ikat print dress and a maxi silk chiffon black and white stucco print dress. There were 47 looks in all, and after studying each one, I watched as Gavin snapped camera phone photos, bounced Kingston on his lap, and laughed when a model walked by wearing a completely sheer top, knowing completely well that Kingston had just seen boobies!

When Gwen came out for the finale, she received a standing ovation from all of her fans. She walked the entire runway, waving and smiling at us all, and posed for the cameras at the end. Then, little Kingston ran out to his mom, and they walked backstage hand-in-hand.

I wondered, “Does Kingston know how truly awesome his mom is? Does he know that there are women out there like me who totally idolize her?” Probably not, but I’m sure by now he’s aware that his mom is kind of a big deal.

Gwen is a very big deal to me, and I’m so thrilled I got to share that with her this week. It really was a dream come true.
