Everything You Need to Know About the Christie’s Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Auction
Details are out for the Christie’s auction of Elizabeth Taylor’s fabulous jewels!
Back in March, it was announced that the late, great Elizabeth Taylor’s magnificent jewelry collection, estimated to be worth $150 million in total, would be going up for auction at Christie’s sometime in the future. We didn’t know when, and we didn’t know exactly how much of the collection would be hitting the auction block; but who even without knowing that, who wasn’t excited about the idea of being able to own (for a price!) the gorgeous and iconic pieces that once adorned one of the greatest screen legends of all-time? But now those essential bits of information have finally been released, so we’ve got all the details you’re dying to know!
Here’s the deal: On December 13 – 16, 2011, Christie’s will put up 269 of Liz Taylor’s jewels bid—which, according to People, is more than $30 millions’ worth of her entire collection. And which jewels are included in that 269-piece collection? Well, how does the famous Elizabeth Taylor Diamond sound? You know, this one?
Because this 33.19-carat diamond, given to her by twice-over husband Richard Burton, will definitely be there! Also joining the party will be the gorgeous 6th century La Peregrina Pearl:
And the 17th century Taj Mahal diamond pendant:
So it’s shaping up to be quite a glittery event indeed!
Can’t quite afford to buy the pieces yourself? Don’t worry; neither can we (let’s face it: who can?). But that doesn’t mean you can’t still ogle over them, because guess what? Before the auctioneer starts crying “SOLD!”, the jewels—along with Taylor’s fashion, art, and memorabilia—will be going on a world-wide exhibition tour. Even better, a portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation; in keeping with Taylor’s lifelong humanitarianism, it’s all for a good cause!
