Who wears Georges Chakra on the red carpet? His client list reads like an A-list Who’s Who — Emily Blunt, Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Bell, Katy Perry and Demi Lovato — these are just a few of the stars who wear his designs.

Georges is showing at New York Fashion Week on September 10.

For spring 2011, Georges is inspired by a building! “While studying in Toronto I was always captivated by the curvature of the Absolute Tower…I have used the towers’ coiled arches as inspiration for my spring 2011 collection by creating a series of bands and straps to lay alluringly against a woman’s figure…”

We were lucky enough to grab him for a few minutes for a quick and exclusive interview.

What is the color palette for your Spring 2011 collection and why did you choose those colors?

My color palette for the Spring 2011 collection includes a lot of white and beige as well as gold. I also used shades of grays and silver, an aquatic turquoise and blues, citrus colors of lime along with purples.

My color choices are based on the season. I typically enjoy lighter palettes for my spring/summer collections and then I add a color that is a little unexpected.

How did you translate an architectural item such as a building for use as inspiration for a dress?

From the moment I saw the architecture of the Absolute Tower; I was in awe… Finding a way to incorporate the illusion of the towers’ coiled arches into my silhouettes became a must. I interpreted the arches in the form of deconstructed straps and bands.

What is it about a building that is so compelling?

I saw a correlation between the magnificently-curved architecture of the Absolute Towers with the feminine curves of a woman – it is quite captivating…

How do you take something that is cold and hard and make it soft, sexy and wearable?

I do not necessarily regard the tower as cold! On the contrary it is nicknamed “The Marilyn Monroe.” The tower has a seductive quality that inspired the sexy little dresses you will be seeing in my new collection.
