EXCLUSIVE! Hot Singer Robyn Opens Up To Us!
We give you the DL on her style secrets.
You certainly can’t call Robyn lazy. The Swedish singer—she’s the Grammy-nominated pop pixie behind tunes like “Show Me Love,” “Do You Know (What It Takes),” and “With Every Heartbeat”—has been busy recording not one, not two, but three new albums for 2010. The first, Body Talk Pt. 1, features the singles “Dance Hall Queen” and “Fembot,” drops today! She’s also gearing up for the All Hearts tour with Kelis – it kicks off in Los Angeles on July 23rd. Despite this crazy schedule, she took time out to chat with Betty Confidential about her new sound, style influences and fantasy shoes.
What can we expect from your new album?
It’s a continuation and development of my last album, Robyn. I felt like with my last album I really found my voice, so I was drawn to continuing those ideas. I was also really inspired by club culture and club music, and what it means to people.
How would you describe your style?
Juvenile! I still wear my Doc Martins and my bomber jacket – the things that I wore in school. I care about trends and what I look like, but it’s important to not be too much about fashion. The people I listened to growing up were not so concerned with who they wore.
Who are your style icons?
Neneh Cherry. Also my parents – I grew up in a theatre family so it was not strange to see people using clothes to communicate. My parents were always in character. And growing up in the ‘90s, there were a lot of weird things mixing together, and I lived in a diverse area of Stockholm. The rave culture from the UK and the buffalo movement also had an influence.
