Exclusive! Marisa Tomei: Nudity is Liberation!
The Cyrus star has no problem letting it all hang out.
Having to appear in her birthday suit doesn’t deter Marisa Tomei at all from taking on a juicy role. “No, it’s kind of liberation, maybe, on different levels,” she declares. “It doesn’t come up that often. It just happened to come up those two times,” says Marisa matter-of-factly, referring to her nude scenes in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead and in the Oscar-nominated flick The Wrestler.
Marisa keeps her clothes on in her latest film Cyrus, a dark comedy about a clingy grown son (Jonah Hill), who goes to great lengths to keep onscreen mom Marisa — whom he still lives with! — from getting involved with a new man. “I didn’t really see all the different parts of it until it kind of came to life… the cuddling of the son when he’s upset and the wrestling,” confesses Marisa of the duo’s bordering-on-Oedipus relationship. “To me they are best friends. It’s nothing else but that.”
Just in case you need proof, the few scenes in Cyrus where Marisa, 45, slips into sexy lingerie are with her onscreen love interest, John C. Reilly, which got us thinking—we’re pretty sure if we had a body like Marisa’s, we would probably have jumped at the chance to appear naked on film. So what’s her secret to looking long and lithe?
“Sex,” she jokes.
Now there’s a workout we don’t mind working up too!
Cyrus opens Friday, June 18.
