Celebrities aren’t the only ones who start trends in fashion and beauty – the average girl can do it, too. Emily Schuman has been sharing her unique sense of style with the world, and the world is listening!

This 27-year-old, LA-native’s full-time job involves snapping photos of her chic, personal style and blogging about it on Cupcakes and Cashmere. Hundreds of loyal readers check her site daily to see and copy her delicious outfits. Coach and other major fashion labels have realized Emily’s trendsetting power, giving her amazing opportunities like designing her very own signature Coach bag, Emily’s Satchel ($498, coach.com), which debuted this past May.

We asked Emily for some of the secrets to being such a successful trendsetter. Read on for her tips on becoming a style star.

Be persistent.
Although Emily has a big fan base now, she started out much like any other blogger. “Cupcakes and Cashmere started out as something that I did primarily for myself and it eventually morphed into what I do full-time,” she says. “My following is an amazing perk, but it didn’t happen overnight. I wrote daily for months without anybody even knowing about my blog. Eventually, through word of mouth, I started to gain followers.”

Stay true to yourself.
Although the fashion world is always hunting for the latest trend, Emily stays in the game by sticking to what she likes best. “I don’t typically pay attention to trends. Instead, I wear what flatters my body most and makes me happy. I would say my style is feminine and simple, so this summer, I’m wearing a ton of stripes, nude wedges, oversized clutches, white dresses and wide belts.”

nice to see styles that you can wear on the street, to work or lunch or just hanging out with your friends – star styles are fun to dream about but hardly can be worn in the supermarket or at the park – love the bags and heels – nicely done! nice site too –

It’s cute, but it seems slightly eccentric.
