Glitter and Condoms! Vena Cava at Fashion Week
Vena Cava had an uber cool Boho vibe and showed some serious skin!
Vena Cava’s clothing is often referred to as downtown chic. What I saw on the runway this Thursday at their fall/winter show lived up to their reputation. Milk Studios in Manhattan was flooded with fashionistas excited to get a sneak peak of the collection. The female design duo, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, featured a number of elegant pieces. What I favored most was the high waisted palazzo pants the leggy models wore walking the runway.
Their color scheme was predominately charcoal, navy and black. Mixed in were prints that featured burnt orange. That bright color added upbeat energy to the 90s inspired styles that graced the catwalk. The MAC makeup team painted silver glitter on several of the girls faces. It really complemented the dynamic cut out tops and certainly served to spice up sex appeal. It’s no wonder why some of Hollywood’s most beautiful starlets like Blake Lively and Rachel Bilson are clients of the brand. They paired a blue beenie cap with pants, dresses and skirts. It worked beautifully with all the outfits.
The show began with thunderstorm sound effects and closed with gift bags. While most designers give makeup or a piece of jewelry, Vena Cava went the unconventional route with their new collaboration with Proper Attire — a line of condoms. They infused their cool girl aesthetic into playful packaging to promote safer sex. What a fun, innovative and fashionable afternoon!
