First Look: Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in 1920s Garb in ‘Serena’
Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper look classy indeed in 1920s gear for the upcoming thriller, ‘Serena!’
You know, Jennifer Lawrence is such a busy girl that I’m starting to think she’s cloned herself several times over to get it all done. In between The Hunger Games, X-Men: First Class, House at the End of the Street, and all of the hullabaloo surrounding the former two’s sequels, she’s found the time to start shooting an upcoming period thriller called Serena with Bradley Cooper.
Oddly, I wasn’t even aware of Serena’s existence until now. This is weird for three reasons: 1) I like Jennifer Lawrence, 2) I dig thrillers, and 3) period pieces are awesome. But hey, now we’ve got a first image from it, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it looks pretty cool. Take a look:
Don’t they look classy? Serena is set in 1929 follows newlyweds George (Bradley) and Serena (Jennifer) Pemberton as they travel from Boston to North Carolina to build a timber empire. What a promising-sounding life! Unfortunately, though, things go sour pretty quickly: When Serena finds out that she can never bear children, she gets a little unhinged—and sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. Not only THAT, but Serena soon begins to suspect that George is attempting to protect his illegitimate family, and, well… we all know where this crazy train is going.
Based on the novel of the same name by Ron Rash, Serena features a screenplay by Christopher Kyle (K-19: The Widowmaker) and is being directed by Danish director Susanne Bier (lady director? Win!). It recently began shooting in Prague, and I don’t know about you, Bettys, but I’m loving Jennifer and Bradley in grand 1920s style. The perfect curls, the hat, the suit… swoon!
Serena is due for release in 2013—and we can’t wait!
