First Look: Jennifer Lawrence's 'Hunger Games' Tribute Outfit in 'Catching Fire'

Take a peek at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.' The look? The arena!

And just for good measure, here’s Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark:

The first time round, Katniss and Peeta find themselves in a forested arena not too different from the woods beyond the fence back home in District 12. Accordingly, the uniforms they were given before heading into the arena were built for camping: Sturdy shoes, jackets that will protect against the cold, and so on (create your very own lookalike outfit here!).

The second time round, though? Let’s just say that the arena is a little more exotic. It’s got a number of different features, including a pretty vicious jungle—but it’s also got a lot of something else: Ocean. So guess what they all get to wear? Wetsuits. Fun!

In the book, the arena uniforms worn by Katniss, Peeta, Joanna Mason (Jena Malone), Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin), and all the rest are described as follows:

This year’s tribute outfit is a fitted blue jumpsuit, made of very sheer material, that zippers up the front. A six-inch-wide padded belt covered in shiny purple plastic. A pair of nylon shoes with rubber soles.

“What do you think?” I ask, holding the fabric out for Cinna to examine.

He frowns as he rubs the thin stuff between his fingers. “I don’t know. It will offer little in the way of protection from cold or water.”

“Sun?” I ask, picturing a burning sun over a barren desert.

“Possibly. If it’s been treated.” He says. “Oh, I almost forgot this.” He takes my gold mockingjay pin from his pocket and fixes it to the jumpsuit.”

It looks like the belt has been done away with, and sadly I can’t actually see the mockingjay pin here (though maybe Cinna hid it somewhere—in the first movie, he tucked it under her lapel). Otherwise, though, I think the outfit looks pretty similar to how it’s described in the book—and indeed, might even be a little cooler looking than I pictured it being. I’ll roll with it!

Tell us: What do you think? Are you impressed by the costumes, or do you hate them with every fiber of your being?
