First Look: Jewel as June Carter Cash (How Does She Compare to Reese?)
‘Liz and Dick’ isn’t the only biopic Lifetime is working on – Jewel is set to star as June Carter Cash in ‘Anchored in Love.’
Lifetime certainly does seem to be making the “iconic women” circuit lately, don’t they? On top of the much-debated Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz and Dick starring Lindsay Lohan, they’ve also got one in the works about June Carter Cash. Entitled Anchored in Love, the movie is based off of the memoir of the same name by Johnny Cash and June’s son, John Carter Cash. And guess who’s playing June? Well, I suppose it’s not much of a secret, since I gave it away in the headline, but yep: It’s folk musician Jewel Kilcher. Check out your first look above and pics of June herself and Jewel as she normally looks here for comparison:
She looks pretty close, right? Jewel Tweeted out that photo on Tuesday along with the message, “Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth.” The singer is as well-known for her crooked teeth as she is for her refusal to fix them, so it might come as a surprise that she’s sporting a perfect grin here; however, the change is apparently not permanent. My guess is that she’s wearing something similar to one of those flipper things they always talk about on Toddlers and Tiaras.
Jewel does, of course, have rather a lot to live up to; Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for playing June in 2005’s Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line. Here’s what Reese looked like:
What do you think, Bettys? Will Jewel be able to hold her own against Reese? I’m a little skeptical. I mean, it’s a Lifetime movie, so it definitely won’t be any great, game-changing piece of filmmaking; and though Jewel has dipped her toe in the acting waters before (did anyone actually see Ride With the Devil?), she doesn’t have all that much experience. But hey, props to her for trying!
