@TNG_S8  Is My New Favorite Twitter

str atrek next generation

Why is it my new favorite Twitter? Because @TNG_S8 specializes in plots from the unaired 8th season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. You see, ST: TNG holds a special place in my heart; watching it was a family event in my house when I was growing up, so anything about it immediately makes me go into nostalgia mode. And that includes this Twitter.

Of course, the best part about it is that these plots were unaired because they’re completely and totally fake. That’s right: ST: TNG didn’t have an unaired 8th season, so these are all the result of some clever Trekkie capable of distilling possible plotlines for a non-existent season down to 140 characters at a time. Some of them actually sound like pretty believable episodes, like this one:

Others, however, are a bit more… shall we say, fanciful. Like this one:

And this one:

Though somehow, Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) learning to play hockey makes complete sense. The Daily What Geek jokingly brought up the possibility of @TNG_S8 eventually going the route of @shitmydadsays and getting its own sitcom, which might in turn cause Trekkies’ heads to explode; but I don’t know. It’s not like the plots on @TNG_S8 are any weirder than those in some of the Trek books William Shatner wrote

How to Sell a Haunted House (A Lesson in Real Estate)

haunted house

Have you been watching American Horror Story on FX? I have. After four episodes, I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it… but I keep watching it anyway, so there must be something to it. Anyway, for the uninformed, American Horror Story is a modern take on the haunted house tale, which (thankfully) includes the family living in the haunted house wanting to move out as soon as possible. However, they can’t just up and leave because pretty much all of their assets are tied up in the house, leaving them with a very practical conundrum: Selling the house.

The family’s real estate agent has brought up periodically that she’s required by law to disclose the unique “issues” with the house. And guess what? In some states, it’s true: In addition to disclosing any physical problems with a property, you’re also required to come clean about any “emotional defects” regarding the place as well. The amount of information about those “emotional defects” you’re required to disclose, however, can vary. In Virginia, you only need to reveal things like murders that happened on the property or ghost sightings if they physically affect the property. In California, where American Horror Story takes place, you’re only obliged to inform buyers about a death on the property if it occurred less than three years prior to the sale. In New York, however, you must absolutely disclose anything and anything that could be deemed a potential defect—even if it’s something like a haunting.

Note to self: Don’t buy a haunted house in New York State—getting rid of it may be more trouble than it’s worth!

Useful Gadgets for Your Everyday Life: Twelve South’s PlugBug

plug bug

Are you an Apple devotee? If you are, then you’re probably often faced with the following conundrum: How on earth are you supposed to be able to charge all your Apple devices at once? After all, there are only so many outlets one can take over.

But guess what? The answer is here, thanks to the Apple accessory wizards at Twelve South! Twelve South calls their ingenious little invention the PlugBug.  An attachment for any normal MacBook power brick, the PlugBug is equipped not only with a two-prong outlet, but also with its very own powered 10-watt USB port—into which you can plug your iPhone’s or iPad’s USB cable, enabling you to charge your MacBook and your other Apple device from the same outlet. Even better, the powerful 10w USB port on the PlugBug ensures the fastest charge possible for your iPhone or iPad. How’s that for multitasking?

Check it out in action in the video below. The only question left is, why didn’t someone think of this sooner?

Asteroids Aren’t Visiting, But No Prezzies!

 asteroid yu55

We’re not talking about the game, an asteroid, or more accurately the asteroid known as YU55, is swinging by the earth for a fly-by. Since it’s going to be 201,700 miles away from Earth, if it waves at us, we won’t be able to see it.

Scientists aren’t troubled by the relative nearness of the asteroid’s swinging through our orbit. Even though the visit won’t include any cool hostess gifts, they’re excited. As Marina Brozovic, a scientist and member of the JPL Goldstone radar team, told The LA Times, “We know exactly where it is going to be, and we don’t have any chance of impact for the following hundred years.” She continued on to say, “It is just a great scientific opportunity. It is really, really exciting.”
