Natalie Portman Golden Globes

Ah, the Golden Globes … a chance for the ladies to dazzle, the men to swagger, and Ricky Gervais to make enemies. We love it!

Before we get to the gowns of the evening, a quick word on men in tuxedos:

jake Gyllenhaal, jeremy renner, chris hemsworth

There’s something about a man in a tux that makes a girl swoon, no? When Brad Pitt walked by in his, Guiliana Rancic got super flustered on TV. Looking at the rest of the guys, from  Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Hemsworth to Jimmy Fallon and Jeremy Renner in theirs set our hearts a-flutter!

As for the women it was white swan versus black swan. Black and nude (E! called it blush) dominated the red carpet. The (mostly) stunning but monochromatic looks were relieved occasionally with bright pops of green, red and the odd pastel swimming around the red carpet pond.

Demure white swans on the carpet were:  Dianna Agron, Hailee Steinfeld, Kelly Cuoco, Julie Bowen, Nicole Kidman, Heather Morris, Carrie Underwood, Leighton Meester and Scarlett Johansson.

julianne hough, jane lynch, jayma mays

Black Swans included Julia Stiles, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jennifer Lawrence, Guiliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, Jayma Mays, Piper Perabo, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Halle Berry and Julianne Hough.

Who rocked it, and who wasn’t a glorious swan but just a sad gosling? Read on for our picks…

I don’t normally like Lea Michelle, but I thought that dress was great!

Blehg I don’t like Natalie Portmans big scary red flower! And you know what — I think Helena Bonham Carter is kind of awesome for wearing that outfit!

  4. mannequin says:

I think Scarlett’s dress was gorgeous; the girl could wear a paper bag and look good. On the other hand, I thought Angelina looked horrid in that shade of vomit green.

  5. KelR1 says:

I like Jeremy Renner’s ensemble. The tone-on-tone is more unique than the white shirt with black jacket and tie look but still subtle and classy.

  6. Catca says:

I loved Natalie Portman’s dress! I actually think Anne Hathaway’s dress fit her curves in a way that made her figure look even better and it would have been youthful if it was crystals rather than large sequins. I also liked Catherine Zeta Jones’ dress and loved Helena Bonham Carter’s whimsy. For me worst dressed was Christina Aguilera and Julianne Hough. Christina because the dress didn’t flatter her and Julianne because she’s too petite to have something that heavy around her neckline.

I thought that January Jones Versace dress was HORRID. So ugly I couldnt believe it was Versace. ugh… and why doenst Annette Bening brush her hair?

#1 I think JLo looked fabulous
#2 Helena – well, she was certainly Helena!
#3 Angelina is so beautiful that she can pull off anything, but that dress was boring!!
#4 Surprised at Halle – she is usually so exquisitely elegant – what happened??

  9. Fashionista says:

Claire Danes, Anne Hathaway, Megan Fox, and Emma Stone were on my best-dressed list.

  10. marriagecoach1 says:

Anne Hathaway is “smoking hot” and her dress revealed all of her great curves and showed off a very fit body indeed. Get over yourself.

My biggest surprise this Golden Globes was Halle Berry’s misstep with that awful black get-up!
