What a week for celebrity scandals, eh? First Kim Kardashian’s not-unexpected divorce, then Lindsay Lohan’s return to jail… and of course, who could forget Justin Bieber’s wacky paternity suit? The blogosphere erupted this week when Mariah Yeater stepped forward claiming that the Biebs was the father of her three-month-old child. Gasp! Can it be?

Bieber’s camp has spent the week fielding the accusations, but today, Justin himself appeared on The Today Show to set the record straight. In his words? “None of those allegations are true.” Interesting, given that some of the sound bytes we’ve gotten earlier this week seemed to imply that he might have had sex with Mariah, but definitely wasn’t the baby’s father. He went on to say, though, that he’s actually never even met the woman, making the whole thing an impossibility. “I know that I’m going to be a target,” he said, “but I’m never going to be a victim.”

So, Bettys: Do you believe him?

I kind of do. The Biebs may have been laying aside his super-squeaky-clean image lately—witness his handsy PDAs with girlfriend Selena Gomez—but he doesn’t seem to be imploding in the way that so many child stars do (coughLiLocough). In the interview, he does acknowledge the wackiness of the entertainment industry, but he also emphasizes that he wants to focus on the things that are “real”: the fans, the charity work, the screaming girls behind him, and so on. And I can get behind that. Can you?

Justin will be performing a special concert for The Today Show the day before Thanksgiving, so be sure to tune in then.

Catch the video of his interview here—though fair warning: It can be a little difficult to hear him over the screaming girls in the background.
