5. Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman
Will and Grace star Debra Messing and her husband, Damages writer-producer Daniel Zelman, called it quits this year after 11 years of marriage. This one is especially heartbreaking because they met years ago when they were both students in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program. They have one child, son Roman Walker Zelman, who was born in 2004. Debra has also already moved on; she’s currently dating her Smash costar Will Chase, who recently split from his wife, Broadway actress Stephanie Gibson, as well. Oh, the tangled webs we weave…
6. Chaz Bono and Jennifer Elia
From Chaz’s transition to the Dancing With the Stars controversy, these two have certainly been through a lot together. We were super excited for them when Chaz proposed to Jennifer at the top of Seattle’s space needle in November; however, marriage turned out not to be in the cards for them. News broke of their split on December 19. Awww.
7. Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner
Heather Locklear started dating her fellow Melrose Place alum Jack Wagner in 2007, right after her divorce from Bon Jovi drummer Richie Sambora was finalized. For a while there, it looked like the third time would be the charm for her (her first marriage was to Tommy Lee from 1986-1993), as she and Jack got engaged in August; but three months later, they called the engagement off. Heather’s daughter, Ava, was one hundred percent behind her decision, though we’re still sighing a little about it.
8. Fred Armisen and Abby Elliott
We probably shouldn’t have been too surprised by this one; Fred doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to sustaining relationships (he split from now-ex-wife Elizabeth Moss in May of 2010 after seven months of marriage). But just think of the hilarious offspring Fred and Abby might have had! The comedy world of the future took a hit in September when these two SNL stars split. They’d been together for a year, which is pretty long by Fred’s standards. Ah well.
9. Olivia Wilde and Tao Ruspoli
Most of us weren’t even aware that Olivie Wilde was married until she quietly announced that she was divorcing. It turns out that Olivia had eloped with Tao Ruspoli, who is a documentary filmmaker, a flamenco guitarist, and the son of the late Italian prince Dado Ruspoli, when she was only 19 years old. Alas, though, Olivia filed for divorce in March citing irreconcilable differences; it was finalized in September. It seems to have been a relatively amicable split, though. Olivia didn’t seek spousal support (then again, why would she?), and the two of them reached an agreement regarding property division on their own.
