Kristen Stewart’s Sheer ‘Twilight’ Red Carpet Looks Explained
Wondering why Kristen Stewart has been baring it all on the red carpet lately? Her stylist, Tara Swennen, has some answers!
Kristen Stewart’s camp seems to be doing a lot of explaining when it comes to her red carpet style, don’t they? First, we got the answer to why she wears sneakers so often… and now we’ve got some words about her collection of barely-there outfits for the various Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 premieres.
Tara Swennen, who has been Kristen’s stylist since the Into the Wild premiere back in 2007, recently sat down with The Cut to talk about the actress’ red carpet style. First things first: What’s with all the see-through looks? Well, given that the premiere of the final Twilight film was the end of an era, Swennen decided to put her in outfits that were appropriately dramatic. You’ll recall that at both the L.A. and London premieres, Kristen wore Zuhair Murad: In L.A., it was the nude, bottom-bearing gown seen above, and in London, it was a sheer, sparkly jumpsuit. About the nude gown, Swennen said, “It took a lot of balls for her to wear that dress, so I’m super proud of her.”
You’ll also notice that in spite of her penchant for sneakers, Kristen has been spotted wearing heels on the red carpet more often these days. Why? Actress and stylist have a bit of a deal worked out: Kristen put heels on for the photos, then change into her favorite pair of Converses about halfway through the red carpet. Of course Swennen prefers heels—as she said, “I think it elongates the silhouette, which obviously you always want to do—make them look taller and have that longer look”—but at the same time, she knows that the Chucks are part of Kirsten’s personality. Accordingly, she doesn’t really mind when she puts them on midway through each event: “At the end of the day, I want my clients to be comfortable because I think it shows. She needs to put on her sneakers and that’s all right with me.” Word.
What does Swennen hop Kristen will decide to do next, style-wise? Pierce her ears. “She doesn’t have her ear pierced, still, so it’s a running joke that when she’s 25, I’ll finally get her in jewelry.”
