LA Fashion Weekend Ends With a Historic Bang!
The entire fashion show was shown live on TV.
“Who’s ready to get wet tonight?” founder of The Gallery Los Angeles Mikey Koffman shouted out to an enthusiastic crowd on the runway at the LA Fashion Week Swim Runway Show this past Sunday.
Held at the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, the evening showcased some of the biggest designers in swimwear. Applause filled the air, but this was no ordinary kind of clapping. Mikey Koffman was joined on stage by KTLA Los Angeles news reporter David Begnaud who announced that starting at 8:28 p.m. the event would be televised live on KTLA (that’s channel 5 to native Los Angelenos). It would be the first time that any show from LA Fashion Weekend would be filmed live in its entirety on a major news station.
“This is the best thing that has ever happened in my life! Let’s make some noise for LA Fashion Week!” Clad in a men’s tuxedo jacket and Converse sneakers, Mikey was perfectly casual cool in her introduction and the crowd let loose with cheers once more.
The lights dimmed then lit up again as the show started. Culture Swimwear wowed the crowd with former America’s Next Top Model contestant Alexandria Everett working the runway in an ocean blue one piece swimsuit. Set to launch in the Spring/Summer of 2012, Culture Swimwear uses recycled fabrics combined with crochet detailing in its entire collection. The collection also comes in plenty of solid covered-up pieces, perfect for all body types.
Immediately following, designer Nicole Lee kept her two piece swimsuits in subtle black but added splashes of color with her neon pink beach tote bags included. Ray by Beach Rays brought the girly girl back to the beach with super feminine ruffled two piece suits.
Rounding out the night was the kaleidoscope of sheer pink madness in the Betsey Johnson swimwear collection. Alexandria worked the runway once more, sporting a dress over her swimsuit that she took off to reveal a hot pink two piece underneath. The models hammed it up on the runway big time during the Betsey show, stopping to bump hips together and high five each other.
The applause was tremendous as Mikey and David popped out after Betsey to thank KTLA for filming, the audience for all their support, and the models for looking fabulous, all of which got a farewell high five from Mikey before exiting the runway.
“We’re sexy and we know it!” Mikey called out, making waves with the crowd once more. Amen to that sister!
