Library Nerd Meets Rock N’ Roll at L.A.M.B.: MB Fashion Week 2012
Geek Chic is what Gwen Stefani serves up for fall!
Gwen Stefani is a girl who sticks to her California cool, tartan-loving, rock’n’roll roots, and we love her for it. Though we were disappointed she didn’t make a personal appearance at her fall presentation (which was so overcrowded and held in a small corner of the room), her unique designs certainly made up for it.
The models that stood in front of a black-and-white photo collage looked like they were coming back from the library after getting down and dirty with your boyfriend in the memoir aisle.
Sheer black knee high socks were paired with a 60s-inspired gray blazer, matching pleated mini skirt and incredibly tall platform stilettos with a highlighter yellow trim. Tight, black zippered stirrup leggings were topped with a crisp white belt, a black peter-pan collared sweater and a gray and maroon tartan coat. The handbags—L.A.M.B.’s big sellers that, lucky for us, eventually find their way into Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx (fingers crossed) echoed the same highlighter yellow, houndstooth and tartan prints.
I especially loved the look of white and black cat-eye glasses paired with signature Adele beehive hairdos and neon blue mid-lid eyeliner (yes, it wasn’t on their lash lines, but in the crease of their eyes!). The eye makeup was a weird detail in a collection that was otherwise very expected of No Doubt’s stylish frontwoman.
With this latest collection, Gwen has proved she deserves to stay as one of the few celebrity designers at Fashion Week. My only hope is that she goes back to those rockin’ runway shows with Gavin and the boys sitting front row!
