He was supposed to serve a full year at Rikers Island jail complex after pleading guilty for a gun possession charge back in 2007, but rapper Lil Wayne was released today, two months early for good behavior.

Lil Wayne kept record of his days spent in jail by keeping a diary and setting up the site, weezythanxyou.com, where his associates w0uld post letter’s Lil Wayne had written from jail. In most of the letters, he talks about his struggles with being confined and his appreciation for all of his fans who wrote to him during the difficult time.

“I laughed with some of you, reasoned with some of you, and even cried with some of you,” Lil Wayne wrote in his last letter. “I responded to as many of you that time would allow. I plan to keep reading and responding after my release. I thank you all for being so very supportive, as I never imagined how much impact my words and life can have.”

Despite his imprisonment, Lil Wayne was still able to work on his music — his album “I Am Not a Human Being” was released in September, as well as some other hits he collaborated on with artists like Drake and Eminem.

Now that he’s free, Lil Wayne plans to reunite with his family (which includes four children) and his Cash Money Records family in Miami, where a massive party will be held in his honor this Sunday. Then, he’ll be hard at work turning his diary from jail into a book, and releasing  a new album called “Tha Carter IV.”
