Lindsay Lohan’s Anti-Alcohol Ankle Bracelet
The device can tell when she’s drinking!
Lindsay Lohan, back in the U.S. after a drama-filled few days involving the Cannes Film Festival, an allegedly stolen passport and an arrest warrant for failing to show up in court on a DUI charge, has a luxe new accessory: an ankle bracelet that checks up on her every half hour.
The bracelet, similar to those that are worn by prisoners under house arrest (think Martha Stewart), monitors the perspiration on the person’s skin to check for the presence of alcohol. (Once alcohol is drunk, it goes into the bloodstream and eventually a small amount appears on the skin.)
Costing about$1,500 for each bracelet, the device is known as SCRAMS (Secure Remote Alcohol Monitoring System), and LiLo isn’t the first well-known person to wear it. Rapper Eve and former basketball star Jayson Williams have also sported it.
If Lindsay does drink and her bracelet snitches on her, it’s likely that she’ll be charged with violating the terms of her probation on a DUI charge. And once that happens, Lindsay just might be making an appearance in jail.
So far, the device is sold only to law-enforcement agencies. But a spokesman for the manufacturer, the Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring Systems, said there might eventually be a wider market for it.
