Mean Betty On Gilbert Gottfried’s Tasteless Jokes About Japan
Joking about disasters is always a disaster.
Oh kittens, we all know the dangers of what we tweet or text – once you press send or post, it can never be taken away. Mr. Gilbert Gottfried made some super tasteless jokes on Twitter about the natural disaster in Japan that all his thousands and thousands of followers could hear loud and clear. But it was heard the loudest by his former employer Aflac, who by the way does 75% of their business in Japan! It was no surprise that Aflac handed Gilbert the pink slip. No more talking duck for you, sir!
Many comedians came to his defense, including Joy Behar, Whoopie Goldberg, and Joan Rivers, saying comedians are “always inappropriate.”
Mean Betty may be tipsy 90% of the time, but she does know one thing clearly: jokes about the tsunami, Japan, 9/11, children, and using the “n” word if you are not a person of color, never ever ever fly. They just don’t.
Gilbert’s tasteless jokes, including, “I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, ‘They’ll be another one floating by any minute now'” and “What does every Japanese person have in their apartment? Flood lights,” are just not funny!
Doesn’t Gilbert have a sounding board like a friend or another comedian pal he can run this stuff by before he posts it all over the internet?! Even Mean Betty has had a friend delete a tipsy text or two before she sends it to her booty call – and thank goodness for that! Things could have gotten ugly like they did for Mr. Gilbert Got Fired!
Here’s to tasteful, witty jokes, that don’t play on the pain of others!
