Michelle, Sasha and Malia Love Their Christmas Tree!
The White House gets a 18-foot holiday tree.
The White House and the Obamas got a double dose of the holiday season this Thanksgiving, when the official Christmas tree arrived in a horse-drawn carriage.
First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia walked around the carriage, inspecting the huge 18 1/2-foot Douglas fir that will be the main attraction in the Blue Room during the holiday season. Thousands of tourists will file by in the next few weeks to see the tree, which is traditionally decorated by volunteers and White House staffers.
“So what do you think? Are you giving it the thumbs up?” Michelle asked daughters Sasha and Malia. The kids indicated their approval. “We’ll take it!” Michelle Obama said.
A military band played “Oh Christmas Tree.”
The tree was grown on the farm of George Botek, in Leighton, Pennsylvania. It was the second time Botek was chosen for the honor; he presented a tree to the White House during the administration of President George W. Bush.
“It doesn’t get any bigger for us as Christmas tree growers,” said Botek, who attended the ceremony with his wife. (msnbc)
