MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet Style: The Good and the Eye-Crossingly Bad
What was good was good on the red carpet. What was bad was boring. Guess the usual suspects stayed home!
Okay, MTV had the lamest red carpet coverage ever for their MTV Movie Awards in the history of red carpet coverage. It was sandwiched in between the Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew show and commercials. We did see three big trends: animal prints, lace and metallics.
Read on to find out where Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Szohr, Brooklyn Decker, Jessica Szhor and Kristen Stewart fell in the “thrilled us” or “made our eyes cross with ennui” lists.
This year, Reese Witherspoon walked away with the MTV Movie Awards Generation Award. And she’s only 34! When Reese walked onstage in her green and brown leopard print dress and silver Ferragamo sandals, she was all smiles. Her speech, however, came out of left field and appeared to slam half of Hollywood!
“I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it’s cool to be bad. I get it; but it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed. And like, if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hid your face, people. It’s totally possible to be a good girl and make it.”
OMG people! Kristen Stewart smiled on the red carpet! It was possibly her best moment of the night. She spent the majority of the evening sitting in her seat with her head hanging low. At least she looked great in her metallic accented fire red Balmain cocktail dress.
Another vampire in red! Vampire Diaries Nina Dobrev also showed up in a red bow embroidered dress by Georges Chakra. She also wore silver peep toes (maybe to keep werewolves away) and loose curls.
What’s a red carpet best dressed round-up without Selena Gomez? The 18-year old always looks so fashionable, fresh and just plain adorable on any red carpet. She looked awesome in her printed Giambattista Valli dress, Casadei heels and a Cecelia clutch. Look for more of her cuteness later this summer when her movie Monte Carlo hits theaters.
Fellow Disney cutie and DWTS alumni Chelsea Kane looked adorable in a black lace bustier over a nude dress with peplum by Maria Lucia Hohan, gold Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and a black clutch. Her red carpet date was Stephen Colletti of MTV’s Laguna Beach.
You know Lily Collin from Snow White, and you’ll be seeing her more in Abduction with Taylor Lautner. She looked fantastic in a leopard Dolce & Gabbana print dress and Louboutin black suede peep-toes.
Katie Cassidy is one of Selena’s costars in the movie, Monte Carlo. She wore the third trend of the night: lace. Her long Catherine Malandrino ivory lace gown was not too dressy for the night and it was definitely very sexy.
Emma Watson is another star who always gets it right — on and off the red carpet. Last night she wore a beaded Marchesa dress and six-inch Brian Atwood heels. I wonder if she practiced wearing those shoes at home before she went out…
Emma Stone’s hair is now strawberry blonde and it looks great on her. Her lacey Bottega Veneta dress, orange satin woven clutch and burnt orange satin Casedei pumps worked together beautifully.
Presenter Blake Lively looked super sleek and chic in her royal blue Michael Kors dress, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and purple Louboutin heels. She stayed composed during all the barbs that were tossed at her during the show. (See Reese Witherspoon, above!)
Leighton Meester looked fab, not scary at all (remember The Roommate?) on the red carpet. Her metallic embroidered and beaded cocktail dress looks amazing. The only question is, how much does that thing weigh?
Talk about red carpet presence! Transformers star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley owned it in a Dolce & Gabbana tiger print dress, Salvatore Ferragamo bag and Sergio Rossi shoes!
