Floral fragrances are easily the most popular and probably the oldest fragrance family. Like the name indicates, floral scents can be comprised of either a single note like a rose or violet or a bouquet of flowers. Sometimes a hint of spice is added to floral formulas for added depth. Winter florals usually have woody or amber notes added to them, so they don’t fade away in the cold.
It seems that fall is all about adjusting to the weather. Perhaps that’s what Issey Miyake had in mind when he decided to release the limited edition L’Eau d’Issey Noir Absolu 1.6 oz eau de parfum spray ($92, saksfithavenue.com). This is a floral with amber trail version of his original L’Eau d’ Issey. Citrus, spice and amber have been added to the floral mélange of lotus, jasmine and lily. It’s perfect for cold, snuggling weather. It can be found on fragrance counters (and online) at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom in October.
Love Express– is the very first fragrance by Express. The packaging features a pair of red lips, so we’re in for a sassy scent. It opens with notes of blackberry, cassis, Italian mandarin and pineapple. As it settles down, you’ll sniff white iris, lily of the valley, night blooming jasmine and tiare blossoms. When it’s completely settled down, a whisper of sandalwood and sheer vanilla musk adds an opulent note to it. It comes in two sizes: 1.7 oz ($44.90, express.com) and 3.4 fl oz ($59.90, express.com). You’ll be able to find it at Express stores nationwide and online on September 30th.
Just in time for fall, Narciso Rodriguez has released a limited edition of Essence Musc Collection eau de parfum intense, 3.3 oz ($110, neimanmarcus.com). It’s a play on his Essence fragrance, more intense and is a tribute to the scent of musk. While the central note is musk, it is surrounded by iris, warm wood, benzoin and floral rose. It’s considered to be a floral with woody notes
Victoria’s Secret Bombshell-broke the fragrance category barriers and created a new one! It’s a fruity floral aromatic (c’mon, I dare you to say that three times fast). It starts off as a clean scent that’s a mix of Shangri-La peony from China, purple passionfruit from Brazil and vanilla orchid. It then settles down into a lush mix of floral and fruit notes with a hint of pine. The 1.7 oz eau de parfum spray ($45, victoriasecretbeauty.com) can be combined with the 8.4 oz body lotion ($20, victoriassecretbeauty.com) or the luminous body powder ($25, victoriassecretbeauty.com) or the 8.4 oz body spray ($24, victoriassecretbeauty.com).
Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Extrait, 0.67 fl ($74, nordstrom.com) is a limited edition eau de parfum spray that is exclusive to Nordstrom and nordstrom.com. It’s part of Gaultier’s Classique X collection. The bottle is sensuous: a black glass bottle of a female form with a giant pink x across the body. This is a rich luxurious fragrance. Redolent of Bulgarian rose, tuberose orange blossom that is combined with ambergris and vanilla. You might want to wear it at night, or on a date.
