Princess Diana’s Gems Up for Auction
The famous Swan Lake Suite is up for bids!
The late Princess Diana was known for her charm, conscientiousness, style and amazing jewelry collection. The Swan Lake Suite will be part of the Iconic Objects Auction held by Guernsey’s Auction House. It will be held on September 24, 2010 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City.
She wore the Swan Lake Suite, previously known as the Diana, Princess of Wales Swan Lake Suite, on June 3, 1997 to the Royal Albert Hall ballet. This was her last official engagement as Princess of Wales. After the ballet, she returned the jewelry to Gerard, The Crown Jewelers so that earrings could be created to complement the necklace. The earrings were finished during the summer of 1997, shortly before her tragic death.
The necklace is 214 diamonds and seven South Sea pearls. They’re set in platinum. The set was designed by Gerard, The Crown Jewelers with additional design ideas from Princess Diana. This is probably the only jewelry owned by the late Princess Diana that will ever be auction off to the public.
The Iconic Objects Auctions will also include items from Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor and other luminaries.
You don’t have to be in New York City to bid. If you have the cash (or credit…yikes!), you can bid via the internet or by phone. To learn more about the auction or Guernsey’s Auction House, visit them online.
