Punk Rock Gowns at Venexiana: MB Fashion Week Fall 2012
From sheer ivory to iridescent rose, Kati Stern’s Venexiana collection pushed all the fashion envelopes–and we loved it.
Venexiana’s Fall 2012 Fashion Show may have been the last act of the night at New York’s Lincoln Center. They truly saved the best for the packed crowds with a stunning line of cocktail dresses and gowns each more beautiful than the last. With 70 looks featured in the runway show, I could not believe what designer Kati Stern’s collection was doing to me: I was literally left speechless during most of the show. I think the only time I spoke was when I saw the first look, an ivory blouse with heaps of crystals and a black skirt, and all I could bring myself to say was “Wowwwww!” The rest of the show I tried to keep my jaw from scraping the floor.
These aren’t your mothers’ cocktail dresses. With a pulsating punk rock soundtrack in the background, Venexiana brought rock ‘n roll flavor to every look, mixing traditional high society staples like one-shouldered evening gowns with gunmetal and bright charmeuse colors. Blouses were sheer, sheer, sheer with nothing left to the imagination and detailing was key. Black netting over citron cocktail dresses, an olive corset with a black lace overlay top, and crystals used so liberally they could have blinded you were everywhere in sight.
My personal favorite dress? Like I mentioned above, I loved each look to the point where it hurt a little bit inside, but the dark green evening gown that featured a sequin serpent shoulder strap was both glam and a bit naughty too.
If you’re trying to tempt me with your forbidden fruit, Venexiana, it’s working. Be tempted an watch the video!
