Send Our Troops Some Love!
This Memorial Day, remember what the holiday is really about.
-Kathryn H. Cusimano
People look forward to Memorial Day all through spring. It kicks of summer and beach weather, there are loads of sales and most people have the day off. But that’s not what Memorial Day is really about. It is a time to honor our troops, here and abroad, active and retired, fallen and still standing. Here are a few ways to show your support for the men and women of our armed forces.
Adopt a Soldier
If you have a little extra time at the end of the week, you might want to spend it helping lift the spirits of a soldier serving abroad. SoldiersAngels.org pair volunteers with individual soldiers stationed abroad to ensure that our armed forces always know their work is valued back home. Volunteers commit to writing one letter each week and sending one care package each month throughout the soldier’s deployment. This option requires dedication, but can make a huge difference in a soldier’s life. Go to soldiersangels.org to apply.
Send a Care Package
Sending a care package is a simple way to reach out to soldiers overseas – you can get a few together on your way home from work today! AnySoldier.org, an organization founded by an army infantry soldier in 2003, can connect you with soldiers who need a little extra love through a network of active-duty soldiers overseas. Give a small donation to the organization to get the contact information for one of AnySoldier.org’s soldier volunteers, who will distribute your packages to soldiers who need a little extra support.
