Who could ever forget the Happy Homemaker? The role of Sue Anne Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show wasn’t originally written for Betty, but apparently the character’s first appearance is described in the script as an “icky sweet Betty White type.” The show’s casting director decided to go right for Betty, the guest shot turned into a series regular, and the rest, as they say…!
6. Animal Rights Activist
Not only is Betty a pet enthusiast, but even better, she’s an advocate for animal rights, too! She works with a variety of animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, the Morris Animal Foundation, and Actors & Others for Animals. She produced and hosted The Pet Set, a television show that spotlighted celebrities and their pets in the early ‘70s, and she presented at the 2011 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. Love!
