As someone who keeps up with celebrity news (and I’m not ashamed to admit it!), I’m fascinated by the stories of infidelity, the secrets inadvertently blurted out during interviews, the extraordinarily expensive clothes and makeup that cost more than I make in a year.

But even I was taken aback by the photo a gossip magazine posted of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, who is all of four years old, happily jumping into a pool. Never mind that this was a grotesque invasion of the child’s privacy (and it was), the most appalling thing about the item was the headline: “Shiloh, 4, Wears Boys’ Swim Trunks.” As the magazine pointed out, this was an “EXCLUSIVE!” photo.

Well, call the Pulitzer Prize committee. I think we’ve got a landmark piece of journalism here.

Within minutes, the site racked up dozens of comments from people who have never even seen this little girl, let alone talked to her, but who nonetheless feel entitled to judge her. “There is something not right here,” one poster said. “I think Angelina is going too far in letting her be a little boy,” another commented.

Then there were the commenters who got right down to business. “When she grows up, she’ll probably be gay, and want a sex change,” one said. Other posters repeatedly invoked the name of Chaz Bono, Cher’s child, who underwent a sex change from female to male.

  1. I agree it is ridiculous. When my daughter was little, I would have sworn she was going to be gay. Not even. Had she been, I would have been fine with it but just because she was a tom boy didn’t necessarily mean she would be gay. And if Shiloh Pitt ends up being gay, so be it. Kids should be nurtured for who they are and their talents and not what we want them to be.

  2. FINALLY an intelligent article about this “subject”!! FINALLY!!!

Thank you SO MUCH, you have NO idea how much I want to find you and hug you and yell YES!!! SOMEONE ELSE FUCKING GETS IT!!!!!!!!

  3. Do people really think they can predict a persons sexuality as an adult from what they wear at 4 years old? If that was true then I guess I was supposed to be a lesbian. When I was a little girl I was a HUGE tomboy. I had short hair. I NEVER wore dresses, all I did wear was t-shirts,jeans, and shorts. Most of them were from the little boys department. I did not play with dolls. All of my friends were boys and all I had were boy toys. My parents let me do this because it is what I wanted, and they didn’t think they should force me to be more like a “girl”. Well when I hit about 9 I started liking “girl” things. Makeup, clothes, dolls, etc. I am not a lesbian, and I do not believe that what someone does a child makes a difference. People need to leave this child alone. Plus would it be the worst thing if she did become a lesbian? Let the child be.

  4. she is gay as in happy you should all go be ashamed of ur selfs or picking on a little girl let her wear what she wants as long as shes not hurting anyone who cares and im pretty shure shes not hurting you because i dont think you know her or you would be happy shes is happy

  5. I cannot believe the complete ignorance of those that commented making assumptions about a 4 year old girl wearing boys swimming trunks. Anyone who has had kids or remembers being a normal kid ought to realize that kids do not have to adhere to a dress code that a teen or fashion conscious adult may. Maybe she wanted to go swimming and didn’t have one of her own bathing suits available so borrowed one of the brothers. Kids are kids and want to enjoy the moment whether they have the so called appropriatae attire. Should she have been left out just because she didn’t have a girl’s swimsuit. Wearing a boys seems to me to have been more acceptable than wearing nothing. I have raised 2 children, both heterosexuals with kids of their own and it never would have occured to me that if I put a boy’s article of clothing on my daughter that someone would have jumped to such an assinine conclusion. Think outside the box people and consider other possibilies. Give a kid a break regardless of who her parents are. If she were some unknown poor child I doubt you would have jumped to such hideous conclusions.
