Taco Bell Wedding

Could you handle a fast food wedding?

-Carrie Seim

a taco bell weddingIn these tough economic times, you’ve been scrimping on everything from groceries to vacations. But when it comes to your wedding – would you be willing to skip the run to the chapel for a run to the border?

Paul and Caragh Brooks did just that last week, marrying in an orange booth at a Normal, Ill., Taco Bell.

The ceremony was anything but normal, according to the Associated Press – the entire wedding cost about $200, including the bride’s $15 hot pink gown. A freshly ordained (God bless you, Internet) friend of the couple officiated as customers continued to order tacos and nacho supremes.

The restaurant was decorated with streamers, balloons and “Will you mary me?” hot sauce packets. (Just the author’s opinion here, but I would have splurged on “Eternity” burrito wrappers to complete the effect.)

While the Brooks’ nuptials might seem a little nutty, it’s a refreshing response to those vomit-inducing half-million dollar affairs glamorized on TLC and WE networks. (Why doesn’t WE just admit it no longer stands for “Women’s Entertainment,” and go with “Wedding Egofest”?)

Tying the knot at T-Bell seems apropos for this quirky couple, who met online and discovered they already had the same last name. Paul, 30, proposed to Caragh, 21, on New Year’s Eve. And hey, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks, if you both like tacos and dig each other, why not say “forever” in a fast food joint?

Whatever floats your boat. Or rings your bell.

Would you be disappointed with a fast food wedding? Where’s the craziest place you or your friends have gotten married?

I love this! Weddings are totally out of control — it’s crazy to spend all that money — something like this looks like so much fun and so personal. Not my cup of tea exactly — but good for them!

I love Taco Bell. The Bean Burrito cannot be beat! Now, getting married there? Well, that’s truly “thinking outside the bun!”

  3. CarrieTalk says:

What is it about Taco Bell that’s so addictive? And apparently romantic??

I love it! I used to be addicted to Taco Bell before they partnered with KFC (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, visit kfccruelty.com). I would’ve seriously considered throwing a party there or something!

im not sure i am as enthusiastic as the rest of you about this wedding…its not something you want to look back on and be like “the wedding was perfect.” i think that it could have been done classier. i dont think that another $100-200 dollars would have been too ridiculous. that’s just what i think.

I’m all about low budget weddings, but I’m not sure if I would ever get married there. I probably would have opted to get married at cityhall and had the so-called reception somewhere fun like this. But hey, whatever keeps them happy :)

Hm, this isn’t my favorite idea at all. I mean hey, whatever makes the couple happy is what’s right for them– but I would definitely NEVER do this. Hope they at least went on a great honeymoon!
