The Best Moments of the 2011 Emmy Awards
Didn’t catch the 2011 Emmy Awards last night? Have no fear– we’ve collected the best moments from the show here!
Didn’t catch the Emmys last night? Don’t worry; you can still catch up on all the best moments from the show, and you don’t even have to sit through all the boring bits to do it! Here’s a roundup of our favorite moments from the 2011 Emmy Awards– with videos!
1) The Opening Number
I don’t really think I need to say anything about this one. Just watch it. Because there’s nothing quite like a rollicking musical number to kick off an awards show, is there? Especially when it’s headed by Jane Lynch.
2) Ty Burrell’s Acceptance Speech
Ty Burrell won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy last night for his work in Modern Family. He’s brilliant in the show—and his acceptance speech was just as brilliant. Ty says that he got a late start in acting and that his father passed away before he ever got a chance to see him perform. Far from the usual “I’d like to thank this person, and this person, and this person” list, Ty’s speech centers around wondering what his dad would think, if he were still around, about “all this”—the wonderful people he works with, the way he gets to learn new things every day, and the fact that when you work in television, you go to work every day in full makeup. It’s funny and heartwarming and absolutely, 100 percent genuine. Congrats, Ty. You’ve earned it. And I’m sure your dad would be proud, makeup and all.
3) The Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Wrestling Match
Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel got into a bit of a tussle as they presented the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Jimmy vs. Jimmy? Bring it on!
4) Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy
Everything about this presentation was great: The way each of the smart and funny actresses stormed the stage during the naming of the nominees; the way they all grabbed hands before the winner was announced; the way they all seemed genuinely over the moon for Melissa McCarthy when she won for Mike & Molly; and, of course, Melissa’s acceptance speech: “It’s my first and best pageant EVER!” Bonus: You can also catch the tail end of Jim Parson’s acceptance speech for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy for The Big Bang Theory here.
