Reggae legend David “Ziggy” Marley has collaborated with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Elton John. His newest partner, however, has some slightly larger ears.

“Working with Mickey Mouse is great,” he jokes. “He’s got a lot of fans and can help spread the message.”

Ziggy is one of 13 performers covering famous Disney songs for the new children’s album The Disney Reggae Club, which hits the airwaves this month.

“I’m doing Louis Armstrong’s It’s a Wonderful World, Ziggy tells BettyConfidential. “It’s a wonderful song and Disney is loved by kids all over the world so it’s a good way to reach out to kids with music and to introduce them to Reggae.”

Reaching out to the kiddies has long been a goal of the politically active crooner whose charity—Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment (URGE)—recently adopted the Chepstowe Basic School in his home nation of Jamaica and has been working to improve the quality of facilities. A dollar from every concert ticket goes toward the foundation, as well as a portion of proceeds from his record sales. But despite his status as Reggae royalty, Bob Marley’s oldest son doesn’t shy away from getting his hands dirty when it comes to things like building new classrooms and working with the students.

“There are a lot of problems in the world right now and one of the biggest ways to make a difference is to reach out to the children,” says Ziggy, 41. “These are the people who will grow up and be the next citizens of the world, the ones who can make it a better place, so you want to get them while they’re young.”
