Everyone’s in love with Kate Middleton, AKA Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. We adore her fresh-faced look and wanted to know how to copy for ourselves, so we asked Beau Nelson, CoverGirl celebrity makeup artist to break down Kate’s look for us. Beau’s created amazing looks for celebs like Kristen Stewart, Emma Watson, Gabrielle Union, Lisa Kudrow and Lauren Graham.
As a makeup artist, what do you see when you look at Kate’s make-up?
Kate is a beautiful girl. She enhances her best features in a simple and pretty way. This look is approachable, beautiful and refined, but not at all complicated.Kate’s makeup looks very similar from day to evening. I suspect she is a pretty low maintenance beauty, carrying only a small selection of products (but the right ones!) to maintain her look. I would guess she probably ups the shimmer a bit in the evening, but uses similar shades to her daytime look, just in different textures.
What is Kate’s step by step make-up routine for day and night?
Both day and evening would start with a small amount of foundation applied to the areas of the face where it’s needed: Around the nose, chin, under the eyes, and forehead. By applying only in areas where needed Kate’s makeup, and yours, never looks heavy or cakey.
Try CoverGirl Natureluxe Silk Foundation ($9.58, drugstore.com) for sheer natural looking coverage.
Kate would most likely follow up with a concealer under the eyes to camouflage any dark shadows. Apply a shade 1/4 shade lighter than your foundation. This will bring light to the area and help cancel out darkness.
Try La Mer Concealer ($70, cremedelamer.com)
Kate doesn’t seem to use a lot of powder. I would guess that she probably uses blotting papers or translucent powder in the center of her face. Kate most likely leaves the cheeks and outer perimeter powder free. This creates a dewy glow.
Try MAC blot film ($15. nordstrom.com)
Blush is an important step that a lot of women forget to do. Kate likes a pretty rose colored blush on the apples of her cheeks. She uses a matte shade for day and a pretty pink shimmer for evening.
Kate favors natural looking eyes with an emphasis on the lash line. She tends to use brown, deep violets or grays to enhance her pretty greenish blue eyes. Kate lines both the top and bottom lash lines. The she smudges the top line and keeps the line precise on the bottom.
Try CoverGirl Liquiline Blast eyeliner pencils ($7.99, ulta.com) in Brown Blaze, Violet Voltage and Silver Spark.
