How many of you have losing weight at the top of your New Year resolutions? Yeah, us too. If you’re going to really do it this year, you want to do it the healthy way, the way that keeps the pounds off permanently, right?
Just in time Health examined 60 American diets and came up with a list of the 10 best and most effective ones out there.
Ever heard of The Structure House Weight Loss Plan? We hadn’t either, but it topped the list and has our interest piqued. The book’s plan is based on a residential treatment plan for obese adults and gets high marks for its incorporation of exercise, addressing why people overeat and the tasty recipes it provides.
“This book takes a holistic approach to weight loss, asking you to fill your life with things other than food — outdoor activities and time with friends and family, for instance,” says Health’s Senior Food and Nutrition Editor Frances Largeman-Roth. “Plus, the recipes, such as Balsamic Dijon Chicken and Classic Pesto, won high marks for tastiness, another factor in long-term weight-loss success.
Next on the list is The Step Diet, which is based on the philosophy that people need to incorporate 10,000 steps into their daily routine by doing simple things like parking far away from entrances and taking stairs instead of elevators. It also encourages dieters to just eat less – 75 percent of what they normally eat.
Tried-and-true Weight Watchers also came in at the top of the list. Experts noted the group support and new options such as the online version and options for different dieters as keys to its success.
Other healthy diets on the list include: The EatingWell Diet, The Volumetrics Eating Plan, The Best Life Diet, The Solution, You: On a Diet, The Sonoma Diet and The Spectrum. For more information on all of these diets, you can read the entire report here.
