BC: What’s your personal skincare routine like? Have any tips to share?
DOD: As I’ve gotten older and my life has gotten fuller, I’ve simplified my skincare routine. I like a good cleanser that doesn’t irritate my skin, but I get bored easily and always want to try new products, so I’ll often alternate between milk cleansers and gel cleansers. I use a light moisturizer for day and a slightly richer one at night. I exfoliate almost daily, which maybe I shouldn’t do, but like I said, I’m a scrub junkie. After showering, I moisturize my whole body daily using Monoi Body Butter or Monoi Oil.
As for tips: I like to use a damp washcloth or sponge to wipe off any type of facial cleanser. It adds that extra little bit of exfoliation and helps to remove residue. For the body, I think a bath with Monoi Oil is one of the best things for your skin. For an extra boost, you can add a quarter to half cup of powdered milk to it. Talk about serious skin softening! Also, Tamanu Oil possesses wonderful reparative properties—great stuff.
BC: If you were stranded on a desert island and had only one skincare product with you, what would it be and why?
DOD: Definitely Monoi Oil. It would prevent my skin from drying out and help a little to combat sun damage, and the scent would surely uplift my lonely spirits.
BC: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long or stressful day?
DOD: To go out for a romantic dinner with my husband, or head to the beach to watch the sun set.
BC: What inspires you?
DOD: My husband. My daughter. The landscape and people of Tahiti and Her Islands.
BC: What do your creations mean to you?
DOD: So much—they are a material expression of my dreams. They help me connect with people in a wonderful and unique way. When someone tells me that they love a Moana Beauty product because it did something to benefit their skin, it makes me so happy. I also love the reactions when people smell the fragrances. I’m interested in the way scent affects people. It’s an incredibly powerful thing, and it gives me great joy to know that a particular fragrance in a Moana Beauty product uplifts someone, evokes a cherished memory, relaxes them. I’m hoping to create a line of Moana Beauty perfumes someday soon.
BC: If you could have any celebrity, living or dead, use your stuff, who would it be?
DOD: Gwyneth Paltrow. She’s become such a style, fitness and beauty icon—she’d be my ultimate client.
