Want to Live in Joan Rivers’ New York Penthouse? Because Now You Can!
Joan Rivers is selling her ritzy New York penthouse. Would that we could afford it!
It wouldn’t be awards season without Joan Rivers, so it’s only fitting that she’d start popping into the news right about now. This piece of news is special though, because it involves owning a piece of Joan Rivers history: Her super chi-chi Upper East Side Manhattan penthouse. Swanky!
According to its listing, the penthouse is located at 1 E. 62nd St and covers 5,190 square feet. Described as “steps away from Fifth Avenue” (a.k.a. where all the shopping is) the building is a full-service Pre-War Condominium designed in the neo-French Classic style by renowned Guilded Age architect Horace Trumbauer. Fancy staircases? Gold accents? You betcha. A private elevator leads right up to the penthouse, opening up onto an Entry Hall which then leads to a two-story gallery and a living room full of sunlight. There are wood-burning fireplaces, sky-high 23’ ceilings, and beautiful parquet floors.
Other rooms include a library:
A dining room:
And a terrace:
Oh, and there are also five full bathrooms, an office, three guest bedrooms (each with en suite bathrooms), and a master bedroom suite. The master bedroom overlooks Central Park and “offers majestic views of the City.” Wowzers.
If you want to snap up this prized piece of real estate, though, it’ll cost you—$29.5 million, to be exact. TooFab noted that there was no word on why Joan is selling; maybe since she spends so much time in L.A., she’s making her permanent residence out there and jettisoning her home in New York? Who knows.
We certainly can’t afford a $29.5 million penthouse, but we’d sure love to curl up in front of a roaring fire in the library with a cup of tea and a good book!
