Was ‘Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event’ a Record-Breaker?
Kim Kardashian’s E! wedding special drew strong viewing figures on Sunday and Monday. But did it break records?
Sunday and Monday nights saw the airing on E! of Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, the long-awaited reality spectacular that finally showed Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ lavish wedding to the world. The viewing figures, of course, were insanely high– this is the Kardashians we’re talking about here–but were they record-breaking?
Kim certainly seems to think so. Yesterday, she posted to her Celebuzz blog: “Wow!!! This is so amazing!!! I just heard that my two-night wedding special on E! drew a combined 10.5 million viewers!! That means it was the most watched event on E! ever!!” Kim’s excessive use of exclamation points aside, she sounds pretty excited.
But where exactly did she get that 10.5 million? Because according to Entertainment Weekly, Sunday night’s broadcast delivered 4.4 million viewers, while Monday’s dropped to 4.0 million. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but 4.4 million plus 4.0 million equals 8.4 million, yes?
EW also went on to compare the numbers of each individual night of the wedding special with both the fifth season premiere and the fourth season finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians: the fifth season premiere pulled in 4.7 million viewers, and the fourth season finale drew 4.8 million.
Now, Kim isn’t exactly known for her number-crunching skills; and furthermore, EW reports viewing figures all the time, so I’m a little more inclined to trust their math than Kim’s. But I’ll open this up to the floor: What do you think, Bettys? Record-breaking, or just mildly impressive?
