Well, This Is Awkward: Debbie Harry, 66, Mistaken for Lindsay Lohan, 25
Debbie Harry is 66. Lindsay Lohan is 25. And yet they still got mistaken for each other. And we’re actually not that surprised…
Soooo this happened: On Sunday, Debbie Harry, punk icon and lead singer of the band Blondie, was on her way out from Soho’s Mercer Hotel in New York. Naturally, she was descended upon by a whole bunch of photographers as she did so—but not all of them were snapping who they thought they were snapping. Some of them were well aware who Debbie Harry is, because Debbie Harry is awesome, which is why they were shooting pics of her. The others? Well… they thought they were photographing Lindsay Lohan.
I’d like to take this moment to point out that Debbie Harry is 66 years old, while Lindsay Lohan is 25.
I’m honestly not sure to whom this is more insulting: Debbie, for being confused with the train wreck that is Lindsay Lohan, or Lilo herself, for being confused with someone 41 years her senior. I mean, yes, she’s screwed with her appearance so much that these days she DOES sort of look a decade or two older than she is, but still. Ouch.
To be fair, between the black clothing, bleached hair, and big sunglasses, the two stars DO look pretty similar (that’s Debbie on the left up there and LiLo on the right); but at the same time, part of me is just left going, “Really? REALLY?!” I can only assume that those photographers who thought they were shooting Lindsay are too young to know who Debbie Harry is—although I’m not actually sure if that makes me feel any better about it. I mean, it’s Blondie, for heaven’s sake! Everyone should have Blondie in their store of pop culture knowledge!
Anyhoo, this whole debacle comes hot on the heels of LiLo’s SNL episode, which has the honor of being the second-most watched episode of SNL this season (the Charles Barkley episode came in first) while simultaneously receiving the most lukewarm reviews you can imagine. Now it’s back to L.A. for her, hopefully to finish up her probation requirements and keep her head down. Debbie Harry, meanwhile, is continuing to be awesome—she played a benefit for the Institute of Collaborative Education back in February—and kicking back with the members of Blondie.
Hmmm. Maybe LiLo should look into this whole similarity thing a bit more. She might be able to learn a few things from Debbie!
